My Ideal Night Routine

A while ago I posted what I hoped my morning routine would eventually look like. I like having routines, and incorporating my favorite self care into my day. I love my sleep but some nights I get sucked into Netflix or scrolling Instagram right up until I go to bed. Other nights, I get in a healthy dinner, and go through what I like my nights to look like. Is that what they call “balance”? I’m not completely sure, but here is how I prefer my nights to go.

6:00-6:30 PM – Eat a balanced healthy dinner. Eating earlier in the night gives me enough time to digest my food before going to bed (and maybe fitting in a little snack or dessert).

7:30 PM – Watch a movie or 1-2 episodes of a TV show. I have certain TV shows I love to follow or rewatch.

8:30-9:00 PM – Stretching on my yoga mat and listening to music. I do this after relaxing watching a show or movie to give myself time to digest my dinner. It doesn’t feel very good to bend over your full belly. I have certain flexibility goals and doing the stretches at night gives me more time. Also, this is the time I may use my tarot cards or oracle cards. Doing it at night feels more right for me to connect to those energies.

* I will do a face mask up to three times a week. Depending on how the night is going or how I feel, I will put it on during the movie time, yoga, or after my shower.

9:30 PM – Shower. I usually do a quick rinse shower at night because I like to sleep feeling clean. By this time, I try to stop checking my phone for the night.

10:00 PM – Climb into bed. This is where I will either read for about 15-30 minutes or if I am really tired, I will just close my eyes and go to sleep. I may check my phone for messages one last time.

My preferred amount of sleep is 9 hours. I feel the most rested and I don’t notice me reaching for the snooze button as often as I do when I get 8 hours or 10 hours.
